Guangxi Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as GXAS) was established in May 1978. It is a public institution of Category I for public welfare at the main department level, directly under the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The comprehensive natural science research institution is dedicated to addressing issues of key and major technologies that have a broad application, strategic importance, and foresightedness, and to providing scientific and technological support for the high-quality development of Guangxi's economy and society.

GXAS primarily focuses on basic and applied basic research in key areas including marine science, protection and utilization of plant resources, biotechnology, ecological and environmental protection, new-generation information technology, comprehensive health care, high-performance materials, and high-end equipment manufacturing. It comprises seven administrative departments, eight internal research institutions, two public research units of Category I as independent legal entities, and one high-tech group company. Additionally, it has 34 new-type research and development institutions, including 4 branch institutes co-established with local municipalities and 3 research institutes co-established with academician teams.

Currently, there are over 800 employees (including more than 640 researchers), among whom more than 280 persons hold senior professional titles, over 210 persons have doctoral degrees, and more than 270 persons hold master's degrees. Academicians Strategy, Through initiatives such as the GXAS Scholars Strategy, the GXAS Think Tank Scholars Strategy, and the Strategic Talent Development Program, the Academy strengthens the construction of leading talent teams. It has introduced and cultivated 68 GXAS Scholars, and formed 49 teams of GXAS Scholars, 6 strategic development teams, and 3 academician teams. It also has a graduate school and two postdoctoral workstations and 21 postdoctoral researchers currently in training.
